Residents of Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, have called for improved healthcare services and better medical facilities as healthcare workers and patients raise concerns over inadequate medical equipment, drugs, staffing and the affordability of healthcare in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healthcare remains an essential service for residents, but challenges surrounding the quality, accessibility and cost of medical care continue to affect people who depend on health facilities and pharmacies within the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Nurse Divine, a healthcare worker interviewed for this report, the quality of healthcare services currently available to residents of Abraka is poor, with inadequate medical equipment and drugs affecting the ability of healthcare providers to meet patients’ needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the shortage of essential medical supplies often results in patients being referred to neighbouring towns for further treatment, a situation she said could create additional difficulties for patients seeking timely medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nurse Divine also identified poor working conditions as another challenge affecting healthcare delivery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, many healthcare workers are dissatisfied with their jobs, which can affect their attitude towards patients and the provision of holistic care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further expressed concern over the lack of adequate health insurance for healthcare workers, saying this leaves them vulnerable to healthcare-associated infections and other hazards associated with their jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nurse called for an improvement in the staff-to-patient ratio, better remuneration for healthcare workers and the provision of adequate medical supplies to improve the quality of healthcare services available to residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The financial burden of healthcare is also a concern for some residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an interview with one of the patients, healthcare services were satisfactory in some areas, with nurses described as caring and diligent in the discharge of their duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The patient, who spent three days receiving treatment, said most prescribed drugs were available and that the waiting time before receiving attention was about five minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the patient identified lack of funds as a major challenge faced by people seeking medical care and also raised concerns about the competence of some doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The patient further suggested that inadequate incentives and rewards for healthcare workers could contribute to reluctance among some workers and affect their attitude towards their duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many residents, the affordability of healthcare remains a significant issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nurse Divine noted that healthcare maintenance is difficult for the average resident to afford, attributing the challenge partly to the low standard of living in the community, where many people depend on small businesses and roadside trading for their livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She urged residents to take disease prevention and health promotion seriously, stressing the importance of basic hygiene in reducing the risk of illness and the financial burden associated with medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As healthcare providers continue to serve residents, the concerns raised by both healthcare workers and patients highlight the need for improved healthcare facilities, adequate medical supplies, affordable services and better support for healthcare workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For residents of Abraka, addressing these challenges could improve access to timely and quality healthcare while ensuring that both patients and healthcare workers receive the support needed for a healthier community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
