In March 2026, the Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, unveiled major infrastructure development plans aimed at improving students’ welfare and strengthening the university’s physical facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during a fundraising event, he announced that the institution intended to construct a modern multi-purpose sports complex and additional hostel accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Professor Asagba, the proposed sports complex would provide a world-class environment for sporting activities, physical fitness, and competitions while promoting talent development among students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the project would be financed through donations from alumni, corporate organizations, and other well-meaning stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed plans to build a 1,000-bed hostel through intervention funding from the Central Bank of Nigeria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additional hostel facilities, he said, would be developed through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements to address accommodation shortages experienced by students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Asagba stated that improving infrastructure remained one of his administration’s priorities because a conducive learning environment directly contributes to academic excellence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that better sports and residential facilities would enhance students’ overall educational experience and increase the university’s competitiveness among Nigerian universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement demonstrated the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to long-term institutional development by combining government intervention, alumni support, and private-sector partnerships to finance critical projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
