Wave of excitement swept through Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, as the 2026 Students’ Union Government (SUG) Week officially commenced with a colourful rally that attracted hundreds of students from across the institution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, which served as the opening ceremony of the annual celebration, transformed the university environment into a vibrant display of unity, entertainment and school spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rally began in the early hours of the day as students gathered in large numbers, dressed in customised SUG Week shirts and other colourful outfits representing their various faculties and departments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid music, dancing and chants, participants marched through major roads within the university community, creating an atmosphere of celebration that drew the attention of fellow students, residents and visitors alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the procession made its way around the campus and adjoining areas, many residents of Abraka paused to watch the display while motorists slowed down to catch a glimpse of the lively procession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event reflected the enthusiasm of the student body and highlighted the significance of SUG Week as one of the most anticipated annual events in Delta State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking after participating in the opening rally, Emma, a 200-level Economics student, described the event as one of the highlights of campus life and encouraged fellow students to participate actively in the remaining activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The rally was energetic and well coordinated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Seeing students from different faculties come together with so much excitement shows the unity that exists in our university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“SUG Week is one of the few periods when students can relax, socialise, showcase their talents and create unforgettable memories outside the classroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am looking forward to the activities planned for the rest of the week,” Emma said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A resident of Abraka, Joy, who witnessed the procession, commended the peaceful conduct of the students and noted that events such as SUG Week contribute positively to the image of the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. It was nice to see students celebrating responsibly while bringing life to the town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Events like this help local businesses because more people come out to buy food, use transportation services and visit different places around Abraka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It also gives visitors a positive impression of both the university and the community,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some business owners within the university environment also expressed confidence that the celebration would increase customer turnout throughout the week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food vendors, transport operators and shop owners noted that campus events of this nature usually result in higher patronage as students move around to attend different programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ensure a peaceful celebration, the university management and the Students’ Union Government have advised students to remain security conscious, comply with university regulations and cooperate with security personnel deployed across strategic locations within the campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students were also urged to celebrate responsibly and avoid activities capable of disrupting public peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the 2026 DELSU SUG Week progresses, expectations remain high for a successful celebration that will not only entertain students but also promote cultural appreciation, leadership development, talent discovery and stronger relationships among members of the university community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
