{"id":3182,"date":"2026-08-09T13:46:55","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T12:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=3182"},"modified":"2026-08-09T13:46:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T12:46:56","slug":"technology-is-transforming-agriculture-says-delsu-lecturer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=3182","title":{"rendered":"Technology Is Transforming Agriculture Says DELSU Lecturer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Emmanuel Odjenimah<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Dr. Jerome Umukevwere, has encouraged young people to embrace agriculture as a profitable business by adopting modern technology and innovation rather than relying on outdated farming methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in an interview, Dr. Umukevwere explained that agriculture has evolved from the traditional use of simple hand tools to smart farming, where technology enables farmers to increase productivity while reducing labour and production costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, farmers in rural communities previously depended on basic hand tools, making farming slow, labour-intensive, and less productive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, modern agricultural technologies, including mechanisation, now make it possible to produce more food with less effort and on smaller areas of land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that anyone who intends to practise agriculture as a business must be willing to invest in technology, equipment, and innovation to achieve greater efficiency and better results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lecturer also advised aspiring farmers to acquire agricultural knowledge before venturing into the business, stressing that education is essential for success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Something you want to invest your time, energy, and money in should first be understood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Going into any business without adequate knowledge is a great risk,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that while many people claim to love agriculture, only a few are willing to study or practise it professionally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, commercial agriculture requires adequate capital, proper planning, and access to suitable equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Describing agriculture as the foundation of human survival, Dr. Umukevwere stressed that food is a basic necessity and that every meal consumed originates from agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Agriculture is life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Without agriculture, there is no life,&#8221; he said, urging professionals in fields such as engineering, medicine, and politics to invest in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He expressed concern that many young people avoid farming because they perceive it as dirty work, despite depending on food produced by farmers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He warned that continued neglect of agriculture could increase dependence on artificial and highly processed foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Umukevwere concluded by assuring prospective farmers that the Faculty of Agriculture at Delta State University, Abraka, has experts in various fields who are ready to provide the knowledge and guidance needed for successful agricultural ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Emmanuel Odjenimah A lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Dr. Jerome Umukevwere, has encouraged young people to embrace agriculture as a profitable business by adopting modern technology and innovation rather than relying on outdated farming methods.
