{"id":323,"date":"2026-07-03T14:18:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T13:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=323"},"modified":"2026-07-03T14:18:32","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T13:18:32","slug":"normalcy-returns-to-campus-as-striking-staff-suspend-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=323","title":{"rendered":"Normalcy Returns To Campus As Striking Staff Suspend Action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Agunze Onah<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All activities slowly returned to normalcy at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka following the suspension of the nationwide strike embarked on by members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strike was suspended on May 12, 2026, bringing relief to students and others within the university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SSANU AND NASU had embarked on the strike action over unresolved demands regarding salary structures of the 2009 agreement with the federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier our reporter took a tour of the university\u2019s Abraka campus and reported that libraries, offices and Hostel staff offices were under locks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">READ ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=316\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"316\">Fiber Optic Installation Begins At DELSU Site 2 As Students Seek Improved Service<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe federal government is meeting with NASU in Abuja, and we are expecting feedback from them&#8221; said Comr.Kesiena Ejovi, the secretary of SSANU DELSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students living in site 2 hostels without the security of the portals and help from other staff had to fend for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At some point, elected student representatives took over the responsibility of maintaining order in the various halls of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">READ ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=290\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"290\">Omo-Agege Berates Delta Assembly Over Declaration of Udu Lawmaker\u2019s Seat Vacant, Demands Reversal<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHaving to do the work of security, Supervisor, and cleaner made me respect them a little more&#8221;, observed -Miss Precious Ihemejeh, one of the student representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SSANU and NASU have given the federal government a two-week deadline to meet their demands and are waiting for a response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=123\">as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, many citizens have continued to express concern over the rising insecurity in the country and how it may affect the electoral process.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue of insecurity has remained a major challenge in Nigeria, with cases of kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and attacks on communities increasing in different parts of the country.
