The quiet atmosphere of Maco Villa Residence in Abraka was shattered two months ago when the lifeless body of a 35-year-old tenant, identified simply as John, was discovered inside his room days after neighbours last saw him alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John, popularly known in the area as a commercial motorcycle rider, had reportedly lived alone in the residence for several months. According to residents, concern began to grow after they noticed his unusual absence and persistent silence from his apartment. The disturbing discovery has once again raised serious questions about isolation, neglect, and the growing culture of silent living among tenants in student communities like Abraka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many residents, the tragedy is more than just another unfortunate incident. It is a painful reminder of a recurring problem in a town heavily populated by students, workers, and migrants who often live disconnected lives behind locked doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Death That Went Unnoticed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landlady, Miss Christina Maco Villa, explained that neighbours initially assumed John had travelled or gone about his usual business. In a busy environment like Abraka, where tenants frequently come and go, prolonged absence rarely attracts immediate attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was only after an unpleasant odour reportedly began spreading through parts of the building that she went to make a complaint at the police station in Abraka. The police came, forced the door open, and discovered his body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landlady is a very old woman in her eighties, so when the police asked her for the full name of her tenant, she could not provide any relevant information due to her age. However, with the help of the tenant’s friends, the police were able to obtain the required information. They also advised the landlady to get a caretaker who could help her keep records of all her tenants in case of future emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He was always on his own,” said Miss Esther, a resident. “You would see him leave with his bike and return quietly. Most people here did not even know much about him.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another tenant described the incident as frightening and heartbreaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is not the first time something like this has happened in Abraka,” Mrs. Harry, a resident, noted. “People live in the same compound but barely know each other.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Growing Isolation Crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abraka, home to Delta State University, is known for its busy student lifestyle, rental apartments, hostels, and off-campus residences. Yet beneath the lively atmosphere lies a troubling social reality \u2014 increasing isolation among residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many tenants live alone with little interaction with neighbours. Some work long hours, while others struggle silently with emotional, financial, or health-related challenges. In such environments, emergencies can go unnoticed for days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts have long warned that isolation can have dangerous consequences. Beyond emotional loneliness, social disconnection can delay medical assistance, increase mental stress, and create situations where people suffer in silence without help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In communities where neighbours rarely communicate, even death can remain unnoticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
