A suspected armed robber was reportedly shot dead by local vigilantes following a robbery attack at a student hostel in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Conversation<\/mark> <\/em><\/strong>learnt that the robbery occurred on June 12, 2026 at about 02:00 hours where some armed robbers invaded a private resident located behind Oak Ridge hostel in Abraka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was gathered the vigilante and two suspected robbers engaged in the exchange of gun fire leading to the death of one of the suspects whose identity was still unknown at the time of filing this report. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to one of residents who pleaded for anonymity, the suspects attempted to flee after the operation when the vigilante team arrived the crime sect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the robbers reportedly escaped by jumping over the hostel fence, abandoning some of the stolen items, including a stolen mobile phone and hair attachments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The witness said local vigilantes immediately launched a pursuit, which extended into a nearby bush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the operation, one of the suspected robbers was reportedly shot and later died, while the other escaped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Bright Edafe could not be reached for comment via his mobile phone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a police within Abraka, who craved anonymity because he was not qualified to officially speak on the matter, confirmed that the police were aware of the incident and investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend the other culprits connected to the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents have called for increased security patrols around student hostels, particularly during the night, to curb rising incidents of crime in the university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
