The Students’ Union Government (SUG) atDelta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has officially unveiled “Synergy” as the theme for the new academic session, signaling a renewed commitment to collaboration, inclusiveness, and student-focused leadership across the campus community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the union, the theme was chosen to reflect its determination to strengthen cooperation between the student body, university management, student associations, and other stakeholders in addressing issues affecting students and promoting campus development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUG said the new theme would guide its activities and shape its approach to leadership throughout the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union leaders explained that the administration intends to prioritize students’ welfare, improve communication, encourage active participation in union activities, and support initiatives that contribute to academic excellence and a peaceful learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They added that the idea behind “Synergy” is to ensure that every segment of the university community works together toward common goals that benefit students academically, socially, and emotionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students who reacted to the announcement described the theme as timely and relevant, especially at a period when many students are expecting more engagement from their representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They expressed hope that the slogan would go beyond words and translate into practical policies, programmes, and visible improvements in campus life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One student interviewed, Blessing Efe, a 300-level Mass Communication student, said the theme gives her hope that the union will be more inclusive this session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSynergy is a good theme because it shows that the SUG wants to work with students and not just speak for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to see more dialogue, better communication, and real action on issues that affect us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another student, Emmanuel Ogheneovo, a 200-level Economics student, also welcomed the announcement, noting that unity among students and the union leadership would be important in achieving meaningful progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said, \u201cIf the union can truly bring students together and listen to our concerns, then this session can be better than the last one. Collaboration is what we need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The union urged students to embrace the spirit of unity and work collectively toward achieving the goals of the new administration throughout the academic session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It further encouraged students to remain engaged, constructive, and supportive as the SUG rolls out its plans and programmes in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Conversation<\/em><\/mark> <\/strong>reports that the nine-day event, held annually to give students a break from academic pressure, will feature a Carnival, Trade Fair, Cultural Night, Pageant, Sports Finals, and a Grand Dinner\/Award Night expected to host over 15,000 DELSU students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week opened with a rally on Day one, July 4th 2026, followed by the Students’ Cultural Fiesta at Campus II, where SUG President Comr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kingsley Dumuje led executives dressed in traditional attire to tour cultural stands representing Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day two, Sunday July 5th, featured the Praise Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to our correspondent, Stephanie, a student of Mass Communication, said, “I am looking forward to the Trade Fair because of the discount prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Cultural Fiesta is not really my area of concern, but the pageantry, I am active, and my friends are contesting too.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the SUG, the event is sponsored by several brands including Whitebay, Crystal Lounge, Foodhunts, Trade With Tasha, 3CEES Hotel & Suites, O2 Arena Club & Bar, Iyke Shopping Mall, Oma Classic Hair World, Onestop Phones and Gadgets, Riode’s Hotel & Suites, Surprise by P.ng, Transglobemed Signature, and Tection Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of SUG Week, the union had directed all faculty and departmental associations to conclude their individual student week activities by June 26th, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, residents of Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed concern over the persistent rise in the prices of food crops, saying the situation has made it increasingly difficult for many households to afford adequate meals.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A visit by our reporter to the Abraka Main Market revealed that the prices of staple food items such as garri, yam, beans, maize, tomatoes, pepper and vegetables have increased significantly in recent months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
