The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Delta State University, Abraka, has launched a “CGPA Recovery Initiative” designed to help students manage their time effectively, develop better study habits, and understand how to calculate and improve their grades before graduation. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The targeted program focuses on essential academic skills, including strategic note-taking and long-term academic planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to SUG officials, the intervention comes at a critical time when social activities, active nightlife, and poor planning have been identified as major factors dragging down academic performance on campus. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by the SUG President, Sen. Leonard, and his Deputy, Comr. Okoro Oghenenyerhovwo, the initiative features expert academic resource persons who engage students on proven study methods, goal setting, and examination strategies. Sen. Leonard strongly urged students to take their academics seriously right from 100 level to prevent avoidable carryovers that lead to extra calendar years or graduating with lower classes. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative also directly confronts deep-seated campus misconceptions, including the false narratives that “only reading 24\/7 guarantees success” and that “CGPA does not matter after school.”  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting to the launch, a student identified as Mr. Christopher expressed great relief but noted he wished such a program existed when he was a freshman. “Many of us struggled because we lacked guidance on how to study effectively in a university system,” Christopher stated. “We entered with a secondary school mentality, and it badly affected our initial performance.”  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, Akilo Isioma of the Department of Advertising praised the student union for shifting its energy toward intellect over standard entertainment. “The SUG is trying by creating platforms that focus on academics rather than just social activities. Students need this kind of support to balance school and campus life. If not, many will graduate with regrets,” Isioma said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gido Academy, a first-class student from the Faculty of Education, described the training as a “technical strategy” that goes far beyond basic motivational speeches to target the root causes of academic failure.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It will not just tell you what to read, but teach you how to read,” Academy explained. “Parties upon parties in school are likely to make CGPA drop. This program addresses that directly. It\u2019s about technique, not just hard work.” He further warned that students often underestimate how quickly poor grades pile up, making them incredibly difficult to recover from by 300 and 400 level.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUG leadership has encouraged all students, especially freshmen and sophomores in 100 and 200 level, to actively participate in the initiative, reminding the student body that early academic discipline remains the ultimate key to finishing strong.
