A recent survey has shown that the\u00a0increasing cost of housing and accommodation in Abraka has become a major concern for Students of delta state university, as many struggle to secure affordable place to live for the academic session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent survey conducted among students revealed That rent price for hostel and private apartments have increased significant compared to the previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many students reported that accommodation that previously cost between 80,000 and 120,000 per session now cost between 150,000 and 250,000 depending on the location and facilities available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shortage of available rooms in areas close to the university has further worsened the Situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, many student have been forced to seek accommodation in distant part of Abraka, making daily transportation to -and-from campus more expensive and stressful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the issue, Blessing Ese, a 300 level Mass Communication student, said the increase has placed many students under financial pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his part, Favour David, a 300 level student of History and International Studies expressed frustration over the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that paying school fees, purchasing textbooks, and meeting other academic expenses have become increasingly difficult due to the high cost or accommodation, that she now have to share rooms with multiple occupants just to reduce expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cspent several weeks looking for a room close to campus, but most of the \u00a0available hostels were beyond my budget\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEventually, I had to settle for accommodation farther away and spend more money on transportation every day\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another student, Micheal Okoro, appealed to the university management and relevant authorities to work with landlord to make accommodation more affordable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo student may have to defer their studies because they cannot afford rent\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A landlord, mr Andrew John, explained that the increase in rent was unavoidable according to him, the rising prices of building Materials maintenance costs, electricity, water supply and security services have made it necessary to review rental economic challenges some property owners also cited inflation and economic challenges as reasons for adjustment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents of Abraka have observed that the \u00a0town’s population continues to grow as more student \u00a0gain admission into the university each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This increasing demand for accommodation has placed pressure on the available housing facilities contributing to the higher rental costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Education stakeholders have called on the university administration, government agencies, and private investors to work together to address the housing shortage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They suggested the construction of additional hostels for students housing project that would provide affordable accommodation for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some student have also appealed to the university authorities to expand housing facilities to reduce dependence on private managed accommodation would help regulate costs and improve living conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
