Experts have called on young people to embrace science and technology as tools for development, saying innovation is reshaping how people learn, work, and solve everyday challenges across education, healthcare, and other sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The call was made during separate interviews with a 300-level Computer Science student and content creator, Success Anthony, and the Vice President of the Nigeria Pharmacology Students Association, NAPSA, Comrade Mukoro Akpevweoghene Marvellous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the impact of Artificial Intelligence in content creation, Miss Anthony described AI as \u201ca helping hand\u201d that enables creators to work more efficiently while maintaining originality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She advised students not to see AI as a threat, but as an opportunity to improve their skills and remain relevant in the fast-changing digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStudents should focus on consistency, adaptability and continuous learning. These are the building blocks of success in the technology space,\u201d she said.
Miss Anthony also urged young people to acquire digital skills and practice regularly to improve communication abilities and strengthen their online presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On healthcare, Comr. Marvellous highlighted the growing role of AI in pharmaceutical research and drug development. She explained that developing a new drug involves several stages, from discovery to laboratory testing, clinical trials, and approval by regulatory bodies before it gets to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, pharmacologists serve as the bridge between scientific discovery and public health by ensuring medicines are safe, effective, and properly monitored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that AI is helping researchers analyze large data sets, predict drug behavior, and identify promising compounds, thereby reducing research time and improving the chances of discovering effective treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite these advancements, Marvellous identified challenges facing pharmaceutical research in Nigeria, including high development costs, limited funding, regulatory hurdles, and the rising threat of antibiotic resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She described antibiotic resistance as \u201ca silent storm\u201d threatening global health, and warned against the misuse and overuse of antibiotics. She also cautioned young people against self-medication, saying it can lead to wrong treatment, harmful drug interactions, addiction, and delayed diagnosis of serious illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on recent medical innovations, she cited personalized medicine as a major breakthrough. The approach, she said, uses an individual\u2019s genetic makeup to tailor treatments, making them more effective while reducing side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comr. Marvellous called for increased government investment in Nigeria\u2019s pharmaceutical sector through improved infrastructure, stronger support for research institutions, and encouragement for local drug manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
