The Student Union Government at Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, has opened applications for the position of Campus Barristers for the 2025\/2026 academic session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Adigwe-Ojei, in a circular released by the SUG Ministry of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the circular, the programme is designed to train student advocates in legal reasoning, public speaking, and dispute resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Successful applicants will represent students before the Student Union Courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA Campus Barrister serves as an advocate for justice, fairness, and the protection of students\u2019 rights within the university community,\u201d <\/em>the circular stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt provides an opportunity to develop leadership, advocacy, and negotiation skills.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Justice said successful candidates will be expected to advocate for students and defend their rights before Student Union Courts, represent clients in judicial proceedings and disciplinary matters, negotiate settlements and assist in resolving interpersonal disputes, and build proficiency in legal research, case preparation, and courtroom etiquette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUG noted that serving as a Campus Barrister offers several benefits, including eligibility for higher judicial appointments within the university\u2019s Judicial Council, hands-on exposure to advocacy and institutional governance, and transferable skills for careers in law, public service, or politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The position was also described as a prerequisite for higher judicial offices within the Judicial Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interested students are to obtain and submit application forms at the SUG Secretariat, Site 3 Campus, Abraka on Friday, June 25, 2026: 1:00 PM \u2013 4:00 PM, and Saturday, June 26, 2026<\/em>: 12:00 PM \u2013 4:00 PM<\/p>\n\n\n\n
