Residents of Abraka,\u00a0Delta State, have expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of roads across the town, saying the situation is disrupting transportation, affecting businesses, and making daily activities increasingly difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several roads within the community have developed deep potholes, severe erosion, and poor drainage, leaving many parts of the town inaccessible, particularly during the rainy season. Roads around residential areas, markets, and student lodges near Delta State University (DELSU) are among the worst affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A visit to some of the affected areas revealed motorists and commercial tricycle operators struggling to navigate flooded and muddy roads, some drivers said the poor condition of the roads has resulted in frequent vehicle breakdowns and increased maintenance costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents said the situation becomes worse whenever it rains, as floodwater covers potholes, making them difficult to detect and increasing the risk of accidents, they also noted the fact that transportation fares have risen because commercial drivers now spend more on vehicle repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A commercial tricycle operator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deteriorating roads have made transportation more stressful and less profitable, “The roads are damaging our vehicles almost every day. We spend a lot on repairs, and this affects our income,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business owners in the community also lamented about the poor state of the roads, saying many customers now avoid affected streets, leading to reduced patronage and low sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students of Delta State University described the roads as unsafe, especially at night when flooded sections and potholes are difficult to identify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents and community leaders have appealed to the Delta State Government to urgently reconstruct  the damaged roads and improve the town’s drainage system to prevent further damages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They said repairing the roads would improve transportation, reduce road accidents, ease movement within the community, and promote economic activities in the university town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
