The management of Eco Hostel at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, secure, and conducive living environment for students through strict security measures, regular sanitation, and improved welfare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eco hostel, originally completed and handed over to Delta State University on November 29, 2014, through Ecobank Nigeria’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the hostel resumed full operations in 2022 after a period of inactivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during an interview on Thursday, June 25, 2026, the hostel matron, Mrs. Faith Efebe, said the management has put in place measures to ensure the safety of residents and maintain discipline within the hostel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She advised students to take responsibility for the security of their belongings,  by using quality padlocks and other safety measures to prevent theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, security personnel are stationed at the hostel gate to monitor movement into and out of the premises, while visitors are required to identify themselves and state the purpose of their visit before gaining access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Efebe also reminded residents to comply with the hostel’s 10:00 p.m. curfew, warning that students who enter the hostel through unauthorized routes or jump the fence after the gate has been locked, would face disciplinary action from the university’s Chief Security Officers and the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stressed that the use of hard drugs, smoking, alcohol consumption, and other prohibited activities within the hostel, are offences that could attract expulsion from the hostel and additional disciplinary sanctions by the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The matron added that students experiencing medical emergencies should immediately report to the university health centre, located close to the hostel, for prompt medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On hostel maintenance, Mrs. Efebe said cleaners are deployed daily from Monday to Sunday to ensure the environment remains clean and hygienic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stated that the management also provides conflict resolution mechanisms for students experiencing disagreements with their roommates, “When conflicts arise, we first counsel the students involved and encourage them to resolve their differences. Where necessary, and if space is available, one of the students may be reassigned to another room to ensure peaceful coexistence,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Efebe further urged residents to familiarise themselves with the hostel handbook, and strictly comply with its rules and regulations, noting that every student receives a copy during registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also disclosed that the hostel enjoys a reliable water supply supported by a standby generator, which powers the water pumping system during electricity outages, to ensure residents have access to water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eco Hostel remains one of the university’s major on campus accommodation facilities, housing both male and female students, it is widely regarded for its relatively affordable accommodation, security, and clean environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students living in the hostel described the facility as one of the safest and most affordable accommodation options on campus, while expressing hope that the university management would continue to improve its facilities and maintain the standards already in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The management said it remains committed to ensuring that Eco Hostel continues to provide students with a secure, orderly, and conducive environment that supports their academic success and overall well being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
