Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has been ranked Nigeria’s best state owned university for 2025, according to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Asagba announced the ranking during a press briefing ahead of the university’s 18th Convocation Ceremony, where he highlighted DELSU’s recent achievements, ongoing development projects, and plans to strengthen its academic reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Vice Chancellor, the ranking also places DELSU as the leading university in Nigeria’s South South and South East regions and 12th among all universities in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of the university’s management, staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders committed to promoting academic excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This achievement reflects our commitment to quality teaching, impactful research, prudent administration, and continuous improvement,” Professor Asagba said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the university has expanded its international partnerships with institutions in China, Canada, the United States, and South Africa to promote research collaboration, staff and student exchange programmes, and improve the quality of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also revealed that DELSU has continued to benefit from intervention funds provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), with several infrastructure projects, including engineering and medical laboratory facilities, either under construction or nearing completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Asagba said renovation works are also ongoing in students’ hostels to provide a safer and more conducive living environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the prevailing economic challenges, he noted that the university has maintained its tuition fees to reduce the financial burden on students and their parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the institution’s future development plans, the Vice Chancellor announced that the university would launch a fundraising campaign, for the construction of a modern sports complex aimed at promoting sporting excellence and discovering young talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to sustained investment in infrastructure, research, innovation, and global partnerships to strengthen its position as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of higher learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Asagba said continuous investment in staff development, curriculum improvement, and research has contributed significantly to the university’s growing reputation within and outside Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also appreciated the Delta State Government, the Governing Council, staff, students, alumni, and development partners for their contributions to the institution’s progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice Chancellor expressed optimism, that continued collaboration and commitment from stakeholders would enable the university to achieve greater milestones, and sustain its culture of excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recognition is expected to further enhance DELSU’s national profile, attract more academic partnerships, expand research opportunities, and strengthen its reputation as one of Nigeria’sleading centres of teaching, learning, research, and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
