Students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, have highlighted the importance of the Students Union Government (SUG), describing it as a vital body that represents students’ interests, promotes their welfare, and serves as a bridge between students and the university management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in separate interviews, the students commended the union for its advocacy on student welfare, financial support initiatives, and efforts to improve campus life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 400 level Accounting student, Victory Promise, described the SUG as the voice of the student community, “The SUG is our voice in school, they represent us and serve as the link between students and the university management,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Promise credited the union with creating awareness about the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), noting that many students who were unable to pay their tuition fees benefited from the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, preparations are also underway for the annual SUG Week, which will feature activities such as a rally, football competition, cultural festival, beauty pageant, and an awards and dinner night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also speaking, Enakome Timothy, a 200 level Biology Education student, praised the union for its efforts in addressing students financial challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The SUG has been very supportive, a friend of mine was able to pay her fees after learning about NELFUND through the union,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also commended the union for engaging the university management on issues relating to school fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He, however, stressed the need for student leaders, who are committed to protecting students interests and promoting their welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While acknowledging the union’s achievements, some students urged the SUG to intensify efforts in addressing challenges affecting the learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One student appealed to the union to engage the university management, on the poor condition of some lecture halls, citing broken chairs and inadequate facilities in the Faculty of Science large lecture hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students expressed confidence,  that future SUG administrations would continue to strengthen communication between students and management, improve welfare programmes, and advocate for better learning facilities across the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
