The Communication and Media Studies Students’ Association (COMMESSA), Delta State University (DELSU) Chapter, has successfully concluded its annual faculty week celebration, \u201cCOMMESSA Week ’26,\u201d with students and executives calling for future editions to incorporate more academic and career-development activities alongside the entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five-day event held from Monday, June 22, to Friday, June 26, 2026, on the DELSU Abraka campus was themed around unity, talent expression, and stress relief ahead of the second-semester examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week featured a diverse lineup of activities designed to foster creativity and departmental unity. The schedule opened with Costume Day, styled \u201cDress Like Your Favorite Celebrity,\u201d on Monday, followed by a picnic hangout and karaoke session on Tuesday, a movie night on Wednesday, Sports and Jersey Day on Thursday, and a grand finale comprising the Freshers’ Party and pageantry on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The events attracted large turnouts from students across the Mass Communication, Film and Multimedia, Journalism, Broadcasting, Advertising, and Public Relations departments, creating an atmosphere of excitement and cross-departmental networking on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rreactions gathered during the interview showed students and executives expressing mixed feelings appreciating the entertainment while calling for improvements in planning and student welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Director of Socials (DOS) for COMMESSA, Comrade Nduka Rosemary, said the primary objective of the week was to create an inclusive and stress-free environment for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. We designed COMMESSA Week ’26 to ensure that every student, regardless of department or level, had a space to express themselves, unwind, and connect,\u201d Comrade Rosemary explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She commended the faculty management, sponsors, and student volunteers for their support, and, addressing concerns over logistics, outlined plans to improve welfare should she emerge as Faculty DOS in the next administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy God’s grace, if I emerge as the DOS in the next administration, COMMESSA Week ’27 will not only be about entertainment but will incorporate panel discussions, media exhibitions, and skill-acquisition workshops. Our goal is to balance social activities with professional growth so that students benefit both academically and socially,\u201d she assured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ugbor Precious Ajiri, Miss COMMESSA 2025, also shared her thoughts on the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Faculty Week was a good one, and I appreciate the efforts of everyone who contributed to its success. However, I believe there is always room to raise the standard with even more creativity and fresh ideas to make the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a great outing, and I look forward to even bigger and better editions in the future,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also speaking was Akwevagbe Sheikh Godwin  popularly known as President Sheikh a 200-level student of Mass Communication and the Communicator of the Year honoree at the Faculty Award Night. He described the week as a \u201cmuch-needed break.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCOMMESSA Week was refreshing. It helped us relax mentally before exams. I enjoyed Costume Day, Movie Night, and Sports Day the most. Seeing students from Mass Comm, Film, Journalism, Broadcasting, Advertising, and PR compete together was beautiful that is real faculty bonding. My suggestion to the executives is to include more professional games next year, like basketball and athletics. That will make COMMESSA Week more complete. I also believe future editions should include media trainings and seminars so we can learn while we have fun,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 100-level Broadcasting student who preferred anonymity commended the week’s organisation but raised concerns about welfare during the grand finale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCOMMESSA Week was generally good and brought everyone together. But I was disappointed that there was no sufficient food provided during the Freshers’ Party. Students were hungry and had to spend their own money. If we want bigger turnouts next time, welfare should be prioritised,\u201d the student said<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As COMMESSA Week ’26 draws to a close, the mood on campus has shifted from celebration to preparation, with second-semester examinations fast approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Director of Socials extended her appreciation to all who took part in the week’s events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI sincerely thank the faculty management, sponsors, volunteers, and every student who came out. Your energy made this week memorable. We have heard the feedback, and we are committed to doing better,\u201d Comrade Rosemary said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expectations for COMMESSA Week ’27 are already high, with students hoping for a blend of entertainment, career development, professional competitions, and improved welfare that will make the next edition bigger, more impactful, and more reflective of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
