Students of tertiary institutions in Abraka are increasingly struggling to cope with rising living costs as inflation affects food prices, transportation, accommodation, and academic expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A visit to student communities revealed that many undergraduates have changed their daily routines as they struggle to manage increasing financial pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students said they now reduce the number of meals they eat daily, while others walk long distances to lectures to save transportation costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 200-level DELSU student, Obi Dominion, described campus life as stressful due to the rising cost of basic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSometimes I just drink water and wait till evening before I eat. My allowance is not enough anymore because everything has increased,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another student, Tega Praise, said transportation costs had become a major challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven bike that used to be affordable is now expensive. If you move around three times a day, you will almost finish your money,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students revealed that they now depend on shared meals, financial support from friends, and part-time jobs to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accommodation costs have also increased, with students complaining about higher rents and utility expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 300-level student, Deborah, said her rent increased from \u20a6200,000 to \u20a6250,000 without adequate explanation from her landlord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food vendors in Abraka also confirmed that students now buy smaller quantities of food compared with previous months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Benedicta Ogieriakhi, a food seller, said her daily sales had reduced due to declining student purchasing power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFive months ago, I made \u20a630,000 daily, but now students don\u2019t buy much and I don\u2019t even make up to \u20a620,000,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students have called for economic support measures to reduce the impact of rising living costs and protect their academic experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
