{"id":784,"date":"2026-07-11T22:49:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T21:49:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=784"},"modified":"2026-07-11T22:49:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T21:49:47","slug":"ai-revolution-at-delsu-students-urge-balance-between-innovation-critical-thinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=784","title":{"rendered":"AI Revolution at DELSU: Students Urge Balance Between Innovation, Critical Thinking"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Egobi Doreen Olonitare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to transform education, students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, have described the technology as a valuable learning tool, while cautioning against excessive dependence on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students shared their views during separate interviews on the growing use of AI powered applications for academic activities, noting that the technology has made learning more accessible but should not replace independent thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 300 level Computer Science student, Obi Gift Ada, said AI has helped students solve difficult mathematical problems and understand complex concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to her, AI powered tutoring applications provide explanations that make learning easier for many students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ ALSO;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=667\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"667\">Rising Cost Of Living Forces Abraka Students To Adopt Survival Strategies<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She, however, warned against over reliance on the technology, &#8220;AI has made learning easier for me and many of my classmates, but students should not depend entirely on it. It should be used as a study aid, rather than a replacement for personal effort,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another student, Togoma Favor, a 200 level Computer Science student, described AI as a useful academic assistant, that provides step by step guidance for solving mathematical problems, analysing data and completing other academic tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She noted that while AI offers several benefits, excessive dependence on the technology could weaken students&#8217; creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills, &#8220;AI is helpful, but students should still develop the ability to think independently, and solve problems on their own,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students agreed that Artificial Intelligence is reshaping education, by making information more accessible and supporting academic learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=781\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"781\">Staff Call for Improved Welfare, Facilities in DELSU Campus II<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, they stressed that responsible use of the technology is essential to ensure that it complements learning, rather than replacing the skills students need to develop, through personal study and critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As AI becomes increasingly integrated into higher education, students at DELSU believe striking a balance between innovation and independent learning will be key to maximising its benefits, while reducing its potential risks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Egobi Doreen Olonitare As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to transform education, students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, have described the technology as a valuable learning tool, while cautioning against excessive dependence on it.
