As preparations for future elections continue across Nigeria, a resident has said campaign promises remain one of the major factors influencing how many voters choose their preferred candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during an interview, Mr. Enamuotor Felix said election campaigns provide voters with an opportunity to assess candidates plans, and determine whether they are capable of addressing the challenges facing their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, campaign promises help voters understand what candidates intend to achieve if elected and whether they have practical solutions to issues such as unemployment, poor infrastructure, insecurity, healthcare and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Campaign promises give people an idea of what a candidate hopes to achieve in office and whether those plans can improve the lives of the people,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Felix noted that employment, security, education, healthcare and infrastructure are among the issues that matter most to voters, because they have a direct impact on their quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that job creation enables citizens to earn a living, while adequate security protects lives and property, he added that quality education, accessible healthcare, good roads, reliable electricity and clean water are essential for national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the performance of elected officials, Felix said some politicians fulfil their campaign promises by delivering projects and public services, while others fail to meet the expectations of the electorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, leaders who fulfil their promises often earn the confidence of voters and are more likely to receive public support in subsequent elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He, however, observed that politicians who fail to deliver on their promises risk losing public trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing a personal experience, Felix recalled supporting a candidate who promised to install streetlights and provide solar powered electricity in his community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said although the candidate won the election, the promised projects were not fully implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A solar project was later installed, but it stopped working after only a short period, while the promised streetlights were never provided,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Felix urged political office holders to maintain regular engagement with citizens through community visits and town hall meetings, saying such interactions would improve accountability and strengthen public confidence in government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that sustained communication between elected leaders and the people would enable governments to understand community needs and promote greater trust in the electoral process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
