class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, have described campus pageantry as a platform for<br>building confidence, developing leadership skills and promoting self expression beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The views were expressed during recent pageantry competitions held as part of freshers celebrations,<br>organised by the Department of Health and Safety Education (HSE) and the Faculty of Communication<br>and Media Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>At the HSE Freshers Party, students, lecturers and departmental executives gathered to witness<br>contestants display their talents before judges and the audience, at the end of the competition, Sydney<br>Destiny Osavbie was crowned Mr. HSE, while Jude Onyinye Lucy emerged as Mrs. HSE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Similarly, a Journalism and Media Studies student emerged as Mr. COMMESSA during the pageantry<br>competition, organised by the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants said the competitions offered more than entertainment, providing opportunities for self<br>discovery and personal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>A 100 level Mass Communication student, Okeibunor Peace Chidinma, said body size should not<br>discourage anyone from participating in pageantry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>According to her, confidence, determination and character are more important than physical<br>appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Another contestant, Adu Abundance, also a Mass Communication student, said her passion for<br>adventure inspired her to participate in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She described pageantry as an opportunity for students to discover their abilities, build confidence and<br>gain new experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Journalism and Media Studies student, Victory Emuobosa, said participating in the competition helped<br>him overcome the effects of body shaming and challenge stereotypes about physical appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Similarly, Flourish Okorodudu, a 200 level Advertising student, said the competition enabled her to<br>pursue a long held dream despite discouragement from others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>She added that the experience provided valuable exposure and strengthened her confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=802\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"802\">Students Raise Security Concerns Over Off-Campus Crime in Abraka<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the significance of the event, Mr. Ochonogor Benjamin Olisehemeke, a planner and<br>instructor, said pageantry plays an important role in student development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>According to him, such competitions help students improve their communication skills, build self<br>confidence and develop the courage needed to excel in leadership and public engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>He explained that the aim of the freshers celebration was not only to welcome newly admitted students,<br>but also to expose them to opportunities in talent development, public speaking, modelling and other<br>extracurricular activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Participants said pageantry has continued to evolve within the university as a platform that encourages<br>resilience, self confidence and
