Excitement is building across Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, as students prepare for the grand
finale of the Mr. and Miss DELSU 2026 pageant scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 11, at the Civic
Centre, Abraka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Organised by the Office of the Director of Socials of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), the annual
event is expected to attract students, alumni, fashion enthusiasts and invited guests for a celebration of
beauty, talent, leadership and creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


According to the organisers, the red carpet will begin at 10 a.m., while the main event is scheduled to
commence at 12 noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Speaking ahead of the event, the pageant coach and creative director, Coach Modella Favor, said the
competition is designed to promote confidence, leadership and personal development among students
rather than focusing solely on physical appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Having confidence in yourself is priceless, pageantry gives students the opportunity to discover who
they are, build their personal brands and develop skills that will benefit them long after graduation,” he
said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Coach Modella disclosed that contestants have undergone weeks of intensive training in runway
presentation, public speaking, stage confidence, posture, wardrobe selection and personal branding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He explained that contestants would be assessed on intelligence, communication skills, leadership
qualities, confidence, discipline and overall stage performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


“The winners will become ambassadors of the university, so they must possess good character,
confidence and the ability to represent DELSU positively,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contestants also described the experience as both challenging and rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


One of the contestants, Orosevwotu Unique, said the rehearsals had helped improve her discipline,
confidence and communication skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


“Every day we learn something new about presentation, teamwork and self confidence, in which the
experience itself has already been rewarding,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Another contestant said participating in the pageant had enabled her to overcome stage fright, and
become more confident in speaking before large audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students across the university have also expressed anticipation ahead of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


A 300 level student described the pageant as one of DELSU’s biggest social events, saying it showcases
the creativity, talent and diversity of the student community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Another student said the eventual winners should possess integrity, leadership qualities and good
character, as they would represent the university at official functions and public engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In addition to the pageant competition, organisers said the event would feature musical performances,
dance displays, fashion exhibitions and appearances by former title holders and special guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They added that adequate security and logistical arrangements had been put in place to ensure a
successful event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The winners of the competition will succeed the current title holders and serve as ambassadors of Delta
State University throughout their tenure, representing the institution at official, social and public events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With final rehearsals underway, anticipation continues to grow across the university community as
students look forward to discovering who will be crowned the next Mr. and Miss DELSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
