Okeleke on January 6, 2026, at the Delta State High<br>Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <br>The petitioner, Mrs. Aminu, told the court that her husband had abandoned his marital responsibilities<br>by failing to provide financial support for the family, and frequently leaving the matrimonial home for<br>extended periods without explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>She also alleged that the respondent subjected her to physical and verbal abuse during the marriage,<br>according to her testimony, the respondent repeatedly left the matrimonial home after disagreements,<br>creating an atmosphere of fear, instability and emotional distress for the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=798\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"798\">DELSU Security, Police Strengthen Partnership to Enhance Campus Safety<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">he further stated that the marriage finally broke down on March 19, 2024, when the respondent<br>allegedly packed his belongings, assaulted her physically and verbally, declared that he was no longer<br>interested in the marriage and left the matrimonial home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>In delivering judgment, Justice Okeleke held that the marriage had broken down irretrievably in line with<br>the provisions of the Matrimonial Causes Act, Cap. M7, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The court noted that Section 15(1) of the Act empowers the court to dissolve a marriage once it is<br>satisfied that the marriage has broken down irretrievably, while Section 15(2) outlines the facts upon<br>which such a finding may be based.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The court consequently granted a decree by dissolving the marriage and ordered both parties to go their<br>separate ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=246\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"246\">DELSU: Group Holds Mental Health Awareness Conference, Advocates Better Help-Seeking Behaviou<\/a>r<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=798\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"798\"><br><\/a>Justice Okeleke awarded custody of the couple&#8217;s three children to the petitioner, Mrs. Aminu, while<br>granting the respondent access to the children at times and in a manner that would not interfere with<br>their education and welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court also ordered the respondent to take responsibility for the children&#8217;s school fees, medical<br>expenses, general welfare and to pay a reasonable monthly maintenance allowance for their upkeep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Princess Ogbu A Delta State High Court, in Asaba, has dissolved the marriage between Mr. Danjuma Aminu and Mrs.Faith Aminu, citing the irretrievable breakdown of the union following allegations of abandonment,physical abuse and verbal abuse.
