Urhobo emerged champions of the NADESSTU Inter Cultural Cup after defeating Ika in a penalty shootout, following a 1\u20131 draw in regulation time in a thrilling final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highly anticipated encounter lived up to expectations as both teams produced an entertaining contest, before Urhobo held their nerve to secure victory from the spot and lift the trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of the final, the NADESSTU Inter Cultural Sports Directorate identified the captains of both teams as players to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urhobo captain Efetobore entered the match hoping to end a series of near misses after finishing as runner up in the SUG 300L Cup, SUG FYB Cup and the COMMESSA Dean’s Cup earlier in the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His opposite number, Goodluck, captained Ika into the final with an impressive record, having won the FSS Dean’s Cup, NADESSTU Inter Faculty Cup, HOD Cup and SUG Cup, while also emerging as the FSS Best Player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the match was scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m., it eventually began at 4:59 p.m. following unforeseen delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urhobo took the lead in the first half through Akiyemi Edafe, who calmly finished to put his side ahead before the break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ika responded strongly after halftime, with Osieme scoring the equaliser to restore parity and force the match into a tense finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With neither side able to find a winning goal in regulation time, the championship was decided by a penalty shootout, where Urhobo converted their spot kicks to clinch the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting after the match, Comrade Itabor Victor, Director of Information of DELSU Champion, popularly know as “winner man” or “Son of the soil” described the final as one of the most competitive games of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the delayed kickoff did not affect the quality of play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ika gave their best throughout the match, but they couldn’t withstand the firepower of Urhobo,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victor commended Urhobo’s performance, singling out Efetobore, Akiyemi Edafe and Successful for their contributions to the team’s victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also encouraged Ika to remain optimistic despite the defeat, saying the team demonstrated quality and resilience throughout the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final brought the tournament to a close on a high note, highlighting the unity, sportsmanship and cultural diversity promoted by the NADESSTU Inter Cultural Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urhobo celebrated a memorable triumph, while Ika earned praise for a spirited campaign that saw them reach the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
