The Students Union Government (SUG) of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Saturday, July 4, officially flagged off the 2026 SUG Week with a rally aimed at promoting unity and encouraging students to participate in the week’s activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rally, led by the SUG President, Comrade Kingsley Dumuje, and other union officials, began at the SUG Secretariat near the Postgraduate Hostel and attracted between 200 and 300 students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants marched through major roads around the campus in an atmosphere of excitement, music, and solidarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the event, Dumuje said this year’s SUG Week is themed “The Synergy,” reflecting the union’s commitment to fostering unity among students, staff, and the university management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the week long celebration will feature cultural displays, sporting activities, and other events designed to bring members of the university community together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The theme, The Synergy, represents the spirit of togetherness that exists among students, staff, and management, SUG Week is a time to celebrate our diversity and strengthen our unity,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUG Director of Finance, Comrade Idudhe Orevaoghene Emma, a 500 level Pharmacy student, said the rally was organised to demonstrate the union’s unity and its commitment to serving students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He encouraged students to participate actively in union activities, engage with student leaders, and avoid political apathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Students should be part of leadership and contribute positively to the development of the university community,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 200 level Mass Communication student, President Sheikah, described the rally as a successful way to begin the annual celebration, he commended the 32nd SUG administration for organising what he called a vibrant and well coordinated event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the rally served as an avenue to sensitise and mobilise students ahead of the activities lined up for the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
