The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has
successfully concluded the 2026 edition of its annual SUG Games, bringing together
students from different faculties and departments in a week-long celebration of sports,
teamwork and healthy competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sporting event, held across the university’s sports facilities, featured competitions in
football, basketball, volleyball, athletics and other indoor and outdoor games. Hundreds of students participated, while many others turned out to support their faculties and
departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the closing ceremony, officials of the Students’ Union Government said
the annual games were designed to strengthen unity among students, encourage physical
fitness and identify talented athletes who could represent the university in future
competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


According to the organisers, the competition also provided students with an opportunity to
relax from academic activities while promoting friendship and peaceful coexistence across
the university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several participants described the games as exciting and rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


A football captain from one of the participating faculties said the tournament encouraged
teamwork and discipline among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


“Sports bring students together irrespective of their backgrounds. We competed fiercely,
but we also built friendships that will last beyond the competition,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Another participant commended the organisers for the improved coordination of the games,
noting that officiating and scheduling were better than in previous editions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spectators also applauded the high level of participation and called for greater investment
in sporting facilities to enable students develop their athletic potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The SUG expressed appreciation to the university management, sponsors and students for
contributing to the success of the event and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting
extracurricular activities that support students’ physical and social development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The games ended with the presentation of trophies and medals to outstanding teams and
