Residents of Abraka have appealed to the Delta State Government to urgently rehabilitate
major roads in the university town, citing the poor condition of the roads and their impact
on transportation, business activities and daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several roads within the community, including those leading to Delta State University and
residential areas, have deteriorated due to erosion, heavy rainfall and years of inadequate
maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Residents said the damaged roads have become increasingly difficult for motorists,
commercial motorcycle operators and pedestrians to use, particularly during the rainy
season when many sections become flooded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Mr. Ejiro Oghenekevwe, a commercial tricycle operator, said the poor road conditions had
increased vehicle maintenance costs and reduced the number of trips drivers could make
daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The roads are damaging our vehicles every day. We spend more money repairing them,
and passengers also complain about the inconvenience,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Business owners said poor road infrastructure has discouraged customers from visiting
their shops and increased the cost of transporting goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


A student of Delta State University, who identified herself as Faith, said commuting
between hostels and lecture halls had become more difficult because of potholes and
flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Residents urged the state government to prioritise road rehabilitation projects in Abraka,
noting that the town serves thousands of university students and contributes significantly
to the state’s educational development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
