Departmental Football Clash Makes History As Business Administration Defeats Political Science
By Rebecca Ochokwu
Football has always been more than just a sport. It is a force that brings people from different backgrounds, cultures, and departments together through a shared passion. At Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, that passion was on full display during a memorable departmental football match between the Departments of Business Administration and Political Science.
The highly anticipated encounter drew students from across the university, all eager to support their respective departments. The atmosphere was electric as both teams stepped onto the pitch determined to claim victory and departmental pride.
Business Administration eventually emerged victorious, thanks largely to the outstanding performance of one of its star players, popularly known as Poly G.
According to teammates and supporters, Poly G’s journey to becoming one of the department’s finest footballers was far from easy. He reportedly faced rejection when he first attempted to join the team, but rather than giving up, he remained committed to improving his game.
He continued training with determination, believing that persistence and hard work would eventually earn him an opportunity to prove himself. His dedication, both physically and mentally, gradually transformed him from an overlooked player into one of the team’s most reliable performers.
When the match began, both departments displayed determination and competitive spirit. Every pass, tackle, and attempt on goal reflected the desire of each side to secure victory.
However, when it mattered most, Poly G delivered an exceptional performance. Displaying remarkable composure, skill, and confidence, he scored a hat-trick, netting three goals to lead Business Administration to a convincing victory over Political Science.
Each goal showcased a different aspect of his ability. The first demonstrated his technical brilliance, the second highlighted his composure under pressure, while the third sealed the victory and sent supporters into celebration.
His teammates and fans erupted with excitement as Business Administration secured the win, celebrating a performance that many described as one of the highlights of the departmental football competition.
Poly G’s achievements extend beyond this particular match. He has previously been named the department’s Best Player of the Year, an honour that reflects not only his talent on the field but also his discipline, consistency, and commitment to the game.
Teammates and supporters describe him as one of the finest footballers to represent the department. They believe his passion for football, rather than the pursuit of fame, has been the driving force behind his success.
Beyond the result, the match served as another reminder of the role football plays in promoting unity, healthy competition, and friendship among students of different academic departments.
As students continue to participate in sporting activities across the university, performances such as Poly G’s remain an inspiration to aspiring athletes, demonstrating that dedication, perseverance, and hard work can eventually lead to success both on and off the pitch.

A former Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Victor Peretomode, has proposed a tripartite governance model to sustain excellence in the institution.
Peretomode proposed the model at DELSU’s 12th valedictory lecture held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the university’s 750 Lecture Theatre, Site III.
The lecture was titled, “DELSU and the Burden of Expectation: The Challenges of Being Delta State’s Premier University and Rethinking Governance for Sustainable Excellence.”
He said as the state’s premier university, DELSU carries triple burdens — aspirational, political and operational — which translate into expectations such as expanding access to university education for Deltans, accommodating qualified indigenes, advancing state-specific development priorities and producing morally sound and employable graduates.

Tension As GLK, Okada Collide In Abraka
By God’stime Oyeh
An accident involving a GLK 350 and a commercial motorcyclist happened around 11:30 a.m., reportedly after a case of wrong-lane driving.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorcyclist, popularly known as an “Aboki” bikeman, was coming from the Campus 2 area when he was allegedly hit by the GLK 350 car.
The little damage to the car caused some tension at the scene as both parties tried to explain what happened.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcyclist seemed to be at a disadvantage during the confrontation with the car driver- who was clearly trying to oppress the motorcyclist which led vigilantes and other bystanders to step in and calm things down before it got out of hand.
Things reportedly got more heated when some area boys arrived and tried to help settle the issue. The GLK 350 driver defended himself and shared his version of events, but some witnesses felt his explanation didn’t quite match what they saw happen.
As arguments continued and tempers rose, and with the car driver still wanting to oppress the motorcyclist, the Vigilantes took it upon themselves to caution him since he wasn’t trying to make peace…the matter was eventually taken to the police station for proper investigation and resolution.
